Experiences with SUMB: Orange Girl for past 3 seasons
My decision to get involved with the SUMB came even before my decision to attend Syracuse University. After being a competitive baton twirler for 15 years, choosing where to attend college was mostly based on where I could twirl with a marching band. After meeting Professor Mertz and auditioning for the Orange Girl position, I had a great feeling about the SUMB and its role in the game day experience. Truthfully, I have Professor Mertz and the SUMB to thank for convincing me to come to Syracuse- which is the best decision I’ve ever made!
Favorite memories from band: My favorite memory from my time with the SUMB (and through all my time with baton twirling) was taking the “S” down the field in our performance at the Pinstripe Bowl. It was exciting enough to be performing in Yankee Stadium, but the crowd erupted when we began the fight song that day in a way that I had never heard before. While I like to think that I have more Syracuse pride than your average student, alum, or fan, that was surge of pride and love that has gone uncontested with any other moment. It was definitely the most exhilarating and rewarding moment I’ve had on the field with the SUMB.
Favorite color: Orange, of course
