Hello SUMBlog readers! August is approaching and the SUMB is preparing to head back up to Cuse for Band Camp 2k17! In less than 1 month, the 2017 Leadership team will be meeting in the Carrier Dome to get ready to kick off another highly anticipated season.
Even though this year’s rookies are excited to meet their new band family, you know who’s even more excited? The returning veterans and staff because they’re so anxious to meet you all! In preparation of helping the newbies get accustomed to the people helping them out this Fall, the SUMBlog will be posting spotlights on this season’s section leaders. These members are some of the first faces SUMB rookies will see on campus. They ooze with Orange pride and are excited to show you that there’s truly #NothinFiner in the land!
First, we would like to introduce some of the tenor sax and trumpet section leaders!
Name: Dreya Cherry
Major: Music Industry, Music History & Cultures
Hometown: Harleysville, PA – It’s outside of Pennsylvania and has a lot of cows.
Position and Section: Tenor Sax Music Instructor
Favorite thing about marching band: The Tenor Saxophone Section. And everyone else. When I’m in the Dome, I forget about everything else and get to spend time with my friends, making music and learning field shows. That is my favorite part.
Favorite activity outside of band: Playing with cats, reading, and being involved in other student organizations like First Year Players and Sigma Alpha Iota, the international music fraternity.
Veteran tip for band camp/school: Always pack snacks! When I lived in a dorm on a meal plan, I would take an apple or bagel or something in case I got hungry on breaks at band camp or between classes. Also bring a water bottle with you to classes – it can get really hot in August and you will probably be moving and walking around campus.
Who do you want to write the biography of your life? Lin Manuel-Miranda, except it will be a smash hit musical.
What’s your guilty pleasure song? “Wannabe,” by the Spice Girls, although I am not even guilty about it.
What Hogwarts house are you? Ravenclaw!
Subject of your most recent status update/tweet/instagram post: I run social media for the SUMB, so it is most likely that the last post was for the Pride. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and use #NothinFiner to stay in the discussion!
